Professor of Music, Salisbury University, as a conductor, pianist, and vocal coach, Dr. Folger directs the University Chorale, Salisbury Chorale, Chamber (Madrigal) Choir, and Musical Theatre Ensemble. He teaches Conducting and Score Reading, Advanced Conducting, and History of Broadway Musicals. Dr. Folger is in demand as a guest conductor, adjudicator, collaborative pianist, workshop presenter and past Chair of the Music Department at Salisbury University as well as a Deacon in the Catholic Church and a dedicated Vice President for SWAC. Bill’s wisdom, faith and his integrity and practical applications to decision making, kind and willing service to whatever need is at hand, and loving support to SWAC Staff and board are a gift.
With a B.A. and M.S. of music from Russia, Lyubov is an Adjunct Professor of Piano at Salisbury University, and conducts the private practice of concert piano instruction through Luba Paskova Piano Studio. Lyubov is the originator and director of the Celebration of Great Composers recital, and she is the Chair of the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council’s very successful Classics for A Cause youth concert event. She also spends numerous hours volunteering as a local representative for Piano Guild Auditions and Royal Conservatory Music Certificate Program. With Lyubov’s website skills she has recently become the new and empowering Webmaster for the SWAC website bringing us up to date; Lyubov is a prominent key player to SWAC Success!
Therese Hamilton is the Executive Director of the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council for the past 10 years, and is State President of County Arts Agencies of Maryland for the past 4 years. Therese is also an accomplished Poet, published author, gifted and sought out National Public Speaker, Cantor, musician, writer and thespian, and has served on many panels, boards, and advisory council to Bishops, and Civic leaders and has a 30+ year successful career in executive and event management, of non-profit organizations that include being director of a homeless shelter, soup kitchen, social service, Executive Director of Arts organizations such as convention centers and City appointed arts fundraising endeavors, corporate positions such as Vice President of a business real estate company, and Corporate Events Director of a national health organization, experience in extensive sales, public relations, and social service as well as has held pastoral positions, youth ministry, family pastoral care, and has received numerous awards in several areas of her career history and has certification in both secular and religious arenas. Angie is a Bookkeeper at the TRS Certified Public Accountant Group in Salisbury, MD. She lives in Eden, MD with her husband and their two college age children who are involved in the arts. In her spare time, Angie enjoys reading, spending time with family and volunteering for SWAC as a very valuable, detail orientated and dependable volunteer in both financial matters and the SWAC goals and events, and her dedication to the SWAC mission are an inspiration to all.
Louise L. Anderson, Associate Professor of Music and Coordinator for Music Education at Salisbury University, earned a PhD in Music Education from Temple University. She began teaching at SU in the fall of 2014. Prior to SU, she earned National Board Certification and completed 30 years of teaching in PK-12 schools encompassing all areas of instruction. With a strong commitment to service, Dr. Anderson received the Service Award for the Fulton School of Humanities at Salisbury University. Her service to the community and area schools focuses on bringing musical opportunities to those who may not have access to such experiences. Along with singing in the Salisbury Chorale, Dr. Anderson also sings and performs on a variety of instruments in a duo with Dr. Diana Wagner, Professor of Outdoor Education Leadership at SU. Together they are continuing their research in preserving the musical history of the Delmarva peninsula. Dr. Anderson as a new FY21 SWAC Board Member has already hit the ground running, and we are excited to experience her energy and zeal on our SWAC Board.
Glenn Clutter has worked in the piano industry for 50 years as a director of sales for Baldwin Piano Company, Petrof Piano Company in the Czech Republic, and Bechstein, USA. He has run retail stores in the Pittsburgh area, Salisbury, MD, and now also in Delmar, DE. 50 years of piano experience makes Glenn an expert in the piano business.
Richard Culver returns to the SWAC board after serving under executive director emerita Davina Grace Hill. He worked in public relations & marketing for over 30 years at Salisbury U, where he earned a BA in English/Communications; Wayne State U, where he earned an MFA in theatre; & at U of Michigan, where he was asst. to the gm of the Professional Theatre Program. His MA in radio, television, film is from Northwestern U. After grad school, he worked at the Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, then on Broadway & during the National Tour of “Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music” as her assistant. He served on the boards of the Lower Delmarva branch of the American Heart Assn, Salisbury Film Society, Salisbury Symphony Orchestra & Wicomico County Convention & Visitors Assn. In 2008 he received Wicomico County’s Betty K. Gardner Tourism Person of the Year Award. He served on the Advisory Council for Communications & Public Affairs for the American Assn of State Colleges & Universities, in Washington. He has received awards for the promotion of diversity & for distinguished service at SU, where he also wrote & directed plays with the Bobbi Biron Theatre Program.
Cindy is a Certified Public Accountant and the head of the private professional practice division at TRS CPA Group. Cindy has served as an outstanding CPA for SWAC as a past Treasurer and continues to offer support to the current Treasurer as a Consultant. In her off time, she is a proud mother of 3 adult children and is also extremely active in her community.
Shayne Parker comes to SWAC with a diverse background of administrative assistance, writing and editing, marketing, and more. She earned a Certificate in Technical Writing from Montgomery College, MD, and a BA in Communications from the University of Maryland Global Campus, MD. In her spare time, Shayne enjoys cooking, crafting, and spending time with her pets and family.
Dr. Bessie M. Green retired Professor at the University of Maryland Eastern Shores (UMES) graduated from UMES with a PhD in Marine Estuarine Environmental Sciences, BA in Art from Salisbury State College. She retired from UMES, as an Agriculture Research Associate. Participating memberships are in the National Association of Professional Women; Board President-Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, SWAC; and Board Vice-President of The Chipman Foundation Inc, a non-profit organization. Artwork is displayed in the USA and Japan depicting naturalistic subjects in Watercolor on rice paper and acrylic on mixed media. Dr.Green’s artistic soul, grounded intelligence and dynamic leadership as SWAC President has steered us in positive directions with successful outcomes. Dr. Green has graciously offered to remain on the Board for one year in the position of President Emeritus, and SWAC is the benefactor.
Rabbi Bienstock has led the Beth Israel Congregation and is well versed in small town Judaism and what it takes to survive, is a renowned speaker and instructor of various seminars and workshops on the Jewish faith and other topics, and is a Counselor in the service of Hospice organizations. Rabbi Bienstock brings balance and wisdom to the SWAC Board and strong support for the staff.
Nancy retired from a career as Finance Officer, Operations Analyst, Budget Coordinator and Workforce Administrator for Frontier Communications in New York. Nancy is a volunteer extraordinaire for SWAC in numerous amazing capacities such as logistics, event production, data base, office procedures, SWAC Board member and much more! Her tireless devotion to the arts, brilliance, and artistic abilities in various areas, make Nancy a valuable asset to SWAC.
As the first and oldest arts council in Maryland was born on a Salisbury kitchen table in the home of Sue Hess in
1967, the mission unfolded and the arts faithful have carried it out to brighten lives throughout the state. SWAC
creations such as the photos here and information on the additional pages, are the arts seeds carefully planted,
cultivated and sewn, reaping the 2014 Richard A. Henson award for non-profit excellence, and the first arts
organization to win the award. New dreams, new love.
Then, after years in an upstairs loft, and the difficult search for a new downtown first floor SWAC home, the
answer landed on us as softly and effortlessly as a feather upon sand. The reaping made divine, when a holy church
became our landlord, and a kind Pastor and helpful congregation; our family. The original City Hall building on St.
Peters campus, with years of city stories in its walls and Salisbury history and ambition as its mortar, was waiting
for a tenant of the arts; one who would create, engage community, and thrive in partnership with St. Peters robust
outreach. The perfect marriage of SWAC arts and St. Peters community, a rite performed when parishioner Dr.
Sharon Clark connected the two, leaves both partners giddy with joy. When on the hour, the church bell rings
outside my office window; a brush of wings . . .
