It is the intent of the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council for all persons have accessibility to the Arts, programs and services provided by SWAC. In accordance with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act of 2008, the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council's services, programs, or activities.
Effective Communication: The Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council will generally, upon request with a notice of 14 business days before the date of the event, provide appropriate aids and/or services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in the Arts Council's programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and/or other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, vision or physical impairments.
Modifications to Policies and Procedures: The Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all County programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomed in SWAC events, even where pets are generally prohibited. SWAC programs and services are held in handicap accessible structures.
The Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy, such as retrieving items from locations that are open to the public but are not accessible to persons who use wheelchairs.
